Definition of antioxidant: a substance (as beta-carotene or vitamin C) that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen, peroxides, or free radicals. —antioxidant adjective.

What is a free radical?

Definition of free radical: an atom or group of atoms that has at least one unpaired electron and is therefore unstable and highly reactive.
